Philosophy of Education.

As a teacher, I believe it is important to form genuine and positive relationships with parents and students. Getting to know my students' needs and interests is the first goal of mine. My role is to be a warm demander, someone who has high expectations of my students to reach their goals. I am devoted to bringing out the strengths (that are already there) in all of my students. To increase self-esteem and motivation, it is important to acknowledge even small accomplishments focused on the individual. I want to be a role model and guide by nurturing my students towards their best self. A teacher should provide their students with the tools they need to find answers to their questions and the motivation to do it.

I want to create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe classroom environment by building connections, trust, communication, and respect amongst one another. I believe all students are unique, as they each bring their cultures to the classroom, where we can learn from one another and create meaningful conversations. It is important to create an inclusive classroom where students have a voice, feel comfortable and feel proud to express themselves. This will allow students to take risks, make mistakes, and take on new opportunities for personal growth.

I am devoted to ongoing learning, someone who is continuously learning alongside my students and developing better practices. I will model to students exactly what I am looking for to help students inquire, think critically, and tackle problems independently. I want to encourage my students to have a growth mindset which means to persevere, work hard, and develop multiple strategies to achieve. Sparking joy in learning is a goal that can be reached through the process of inquiry-based learning, assignments, and projects. By using multiple modalities and giving students' choices they can become autonomous and take charge of their own learning.

In the classroom, differentiated lessons and assessments are made to ensure they meet the needs and interests of all learners. As a class, we will create learning goals, success criteria, checklists, and rubrics together so students know exactly what they need to do and what steps to take to achieve our goal. Students are given the responsibility to self-reflect on their own work and critically think about any areas for improvement. My observations and assessments will be ongoing for a holistic understanding of where my students are at which will help with future planning. This is done through the use of anecdotal notes, observations, formative, and summative assessments. Afterwards, they will receive feedback that is specific, clear, in student-friendly language and includes what they did well and what can be improved for student success. I know they are successful when they can apply their knowledge in real-world situations.
